WCL Discussion Forum // Power + Authority (Online)
The church as a group is responsible to God for leading and shepherding people in the way of Jesus. Jesus always used his power and his influence to help, to free, and to serve, but the brokenness of humans has had people perverting the use of power for fame, for wealth, and for the security of more power since the beginning of time. Examples of this kind of power use and abuse abound in the world. Sadly, the church has not been immune to this perversion of power.
In a step of commitment toward the Fuller Healing segment of our 2020 vision, we hope you will join us for this important WCL Discussion Forum. Together, we'll explore power and the church, and consider how we have individually and corporately been impacted by or even been guilty of misusing power and influence. When we better understand power and influence, we are better stewards of the responsibility they demand, and we can better love and care for the vulnerable within our midst.
Together in a Zoom call format, we will watch a video featuring the powerful teaching of renowned psychologist and power abuse expert, Diane Langberg. This video teaching was viewed and discussed by our entire Willow staff this past Spring and now we want to share this incredibly important teaching and opportunity for discussion with you. The second half of our session will be a group discussion and time for processing learnings. We hope you will join us! Registration for this Zoom session is not required.
Note, the following Sundays in December, we will continue this dialogue in our Redeeming Power Workshop, with Diane Langberg's latest scripture-saturated book release Redeeming Power as our guide. You can pick up her book now from your preferred bookseller and begin reading! While you will benefit from a reading of the book as a whole, our weekly discussions will focus on specific chapters of the book. For a schedule of those readings, and for more information about those gatherings, click HERE.
