Finding Peace in the Midst of the Storm

The Past 9 months:

Pandemic, Quarantine, working from home, George Floyd, mass protests, national political divisions, financial strain, impeachments, loss of jobs, presidential debates, schooling from home, insurrection, police brutality, living alone, living with other's but without a place to have alone time, rioting and looting, racism, deep political division within families, deep political division between close friends, isolation and more isolation, inability to see loved ones, desire not to see loved one, deaths of friends and/or relatives, inability to grieve together at funerals, and personal illness are only some of the traumatic events and circumstances that we have each had to navigate.

Yes- all of this taken together amounts to a powerfully traumatic experience. While no seminar or counseling session or group get together can undo anyone of these traumas there are things that trauma experts have learned that help to build resiliency in spite of traumatic experiences. The workshop with Dr. Harris will help you to understand how trauma effects your thinking and feeling and why. You will learn how to calm your nervous system down and learn why calming yourself will help you think better and make better decisions. You will also learn about things you can do today and tomorrow that will help you build resilience even during the most trying circumstances. Finally, Paul will leave time for questions and answers at the end of the session. Please join us!

About Paul Harris:

Paul Harris is a Clinical Psychologist and has long been interested in the integration of Christian thought and psychology. He holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology and was clinically trained at the Vanderbilt University-VA Internship program in Nashville, Tennessee. In the last 30 plus years, Paul has worked in a wide range of settings such as hospitals, outpatient clinics, and substance abuse treatment centers. In addition, Paul has worked with people ranging from children to the elderly; civilians to combat soldiers; as well as many other diverse individuals and families of many nationalities and walks of life. Additionally, Paul has provided clinical training for numerous interns and post-doctoral residents during his career. Classically trained in psychodynamic theory (Freud and others), Paul took an interest in the effects of traumatic events on people after working closely with Vietnam, Korean War, and WWII veterans during his clinical training at a Veterans hospital. This interest in trauma has informed his thinking beyond the effects of trauma on soldiers. Paul is the Director of Harris Clinical Group, a psychotherapy practice downtown Chicago that seeks to provide professional psychotherapy and counseling services while integrating Christian understandings and perspectives such as grace and forgiveness, among others, into their work. Happily married to the love of his life, Paul lives in Chicago. He and Allison live with their cat while their three children live, work and attend college in Nashville. Paul is ever looking for the perfect slice of pizza and a good place to listen to live music.
